The Sims 3 franchise has delighted Simmers with its wide array of bizarre characters which add an element of fantasy to the richness of the Sims world. Mummies, Robots and Vampires were introduced in the three previous expansion packs World Adventures, Ambitions and Late Night. The Sims 3: Generations introduces a new strange and whimsical character into the game - The Imaginary Friend. Find out what makes this special friend unique.
New baby? Check your Mailbox!
When a new baby Sim is born, there is a good chance that a mysterious long-distance relative will send a special birthday gift in the mail. You will be notified of the package and a strange toy will instantly appear in your new baby's inventory. Once the Sim baby is a Toddler, he will have the option to interact with the new toy. "Singing to" and "Playing With" the colorful doll will give Sim Toddlers a closer relationship with the toy and some powerful positive moodlets. The closer the relationship between a Sim and the toy, the more likely the toy will age up to become an Imaginary Friend!
New Interactions for Child Sims and their Imaginary Friends
When a Toddler Sim ages up to Child, a prompt will indicate that the Child and his toy are close. Continue to bond with the toy by "Hosting a Tea Party," "Playing," and "Singing" with the toy. Eventually, if the relationship is close enough, a prompt will announce that the toy would like to be taken out of inventory and placed on the floor. Do this and your Sim Child will watch in amazement as the colorful toy becomes a fully animated Imaginary Friend complete with his own signature strut!
Imaginary Friends are able to play, pillow fight, get snacks and even clean up with Child Sims. Child Sims can interact with their Imaginary Friends just like other Child Sims, however, only the Child Sim can see the Imaginary Friend. Toggle to other members of the Child Sim's family and it appears as though the Child Sim is talking to thin air!
A Part of the Family
Once the Imaginary Friend and Child Sim are good friends, the option to "Offer to Make Real" will appear in the Interactions Menu. This can happen during the Child Life Stage or any time thereafter. If someone in the household is proficient at Chemistry, the Imaginary Friend Metamorphium potion will do the trick. No chemists around? Seek out a rainbow gem and deliver it to the local Science Lab and they will perform the transformation for you. After dramatic music and a flourish of colored light and smoke, your Imaginary Friend will become a Real Sim at last!
During the Imaginary Friend Stage, Child Sims have the option to rename their friend, otherwise this new member of the family will keep its kooky toy name for life. All experiences will be new to them, and they receive a myriad of positive moodlets for each. Former Imaginary Friends keep their silly strut and can morph back into toys at will! This new Sim is able to experience all Interactions, including Romantic ones - even with its original owner!
For Simmers and Sim Storytellers, the new Imaginary Friend feature of The Sims 3: Generations is an intriguing addition to gameplay.
